In the original Japanese, Lina Inverse is known as “Dra-mata” from the phrase “dragon mo mata ide tooru” (ドラゴンもまたいで通る)—a play on the idiom “neko mo mata ide tooru” (猫もまたいで通る) literally meaning “even a cat would step over it”—which is used to describe a particularly nasty person. For the play on words to make sense, the translators created a contrived acronym “Dragon Steps Past Out of Clear Revulsion” or “Dragon Spooker,” since, to end the joke, a dragon literally steps over Lina.
